JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) – October is Racial Reconciliation Celebration Month in Mississippi.

Governor Phil Bryant made it official Wednesday morning at the State Capitol with Mission Mississippi President Neddie Winters.

Throughout the month, people are encouraged to reach out to the other race through pastor-swapping at church or inviting people of other races to a celebration. Churches are encouraged to hold a Mission Mississippi Day for the congregations.

The Governor is hoping to see more open discussion.

“There are tensions that exist across this country now, and racial challenges that the whole nation may have. We’ve got to be able to sit down talk about that, have a dialogue without feeling frightened that you might say the wrong thing,” he says.

The Governor says racial reconciliation through the body of Christ is the mission of Mission Mississippi.
